Thanksgiving Day 4 Miler & Kid's K Run. Photos by David C. Young, Maine Track Club

Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler

Less than a week after helping Williams College win the NCAA Division III cross country championship, Sam VanVolkenburgh of Freeport earned some individual accolades by winning the 23rd Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler. VanVolkenburgh, 21, led a charge of college-age runners who claimed the top six positions in a race often dominated by familiar faces. VanVolkenburgh finished the course in 20 minutes, 32 seconds, for a 4-second victory over Kirby Davis, 20, of Falmouth -- one of four UMaine runners in the top eight. UMaine teammate Jeff Caron (20:44), 21, of Auburn finished third for the second year in a row.

In the women's division, course record-holder Christine Reaser of Dayton won her eighth Thanksgiving Day title with a time of 23:51. Jenna Richardson, 24, of China was second in 24:08, and Hana Pelletier (24:28), 19, of Belgrade placed third.

See the results posted on the link above.  Sorry that none of the runners had bib numbers this year.  It is the way the race committee wanted it. I started taking photos about 29:00 minutes into the race.  It took me less than 90 seconds to setup to take photos.  I hope you enjoyed the race and the photos. The person who is leading a pack of runners in photo # 36 is Kirk Cratty of South Portland, Maine.
