USA National Masters Track & Field Championships

August 2 - 5, 2007  The University of Maine Hosts the USA National Masters Track & Field Championships - for the third time. Athletes and their families come from every State, including Hawaii, Alaska, and ten countries.  The championships are set up in 5 year separate championships, with medals, ribbons and records and individual champions for each 5 year age group.

All you need is to get in shape, enter and pay the entry fee, and travel to U Maine for an absolutely wonderful four days of competition and 'Downeast Maine Hospitality'.  You compete with your age group only, and meet new friends from all over the Nation and world. Help Maine celebrate the third time we host this phenomenal event.

In 2002 1062 athletes competed.  According to demographic statistics and the Tourist Bureau statistics between 2 - 2.5 million dollars was spent in the State.

Look for entries on www.usatf.org scroll to Masters Championships and the Maine Black Bear will pop up.  Another connection site is www.meusatf.org    Also, email Track and Field Coach at University of Maine for information:  rolland.ranson@umit.maine.edu

The 2007 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The 2007  USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the University of Maine in Orono from August 2 -5. This is the 3rd time it is at the University of Maine. Participants say the best two sites are the University of Oregon in Eugene and the University of Maine.

Competition starts at age 30 on up in 5 year age groups. Competitors include local runners and field participants as well as past Olympians and national and world age group record holders. Events include a track 5K on Thursday, Steeplechase on Friday, 10K and 800 Saturday and 1500 and relays on Sunday to name a few events. Relays including 4X100,4X400 and 4X800 are in 10 year age groups for either club or ad hoc{ not all on the team belonging to the same club).

At the recent indoor Masters Championships in Boston, many world and national records were set including Bob Matteson age 90 from Vermont running a 4:50:81 in the 800 for a record and Kathy Martin age 55 from New York running a 2:31:73 800 for a record as well as a 5:27:89 mile and a 10:35:36 3K. Results can be found at www.usatfne.org.

For more information on the outdoor meet go to www.meusatf.org and www.nationalmastersnews.com .

Put a team together or just participate in an event and get a chance to see and be a part of some of the best track and field competition in the world.

The 2007 MECTA track and field season is approaching

The 2007 MECTA track and field season is approaching fast. I will again be coordinating the draft this year for the league. The fee is $50 for the season. If you are planning to compete this year as a draftee, let me know by replying to this email, and coordinate with the captain of the team you competed for last year to determine if you will remain with that team.

I have sent this note to all draftees from last year's list for whom I have an email address. If you know of anyone who has been left out, or anyone new who is interested, please advise them to contact me.

Thank you,

    Mt Washington Road Race

The lottery registration is open now - and closes 3/15.  If you want to make the Rockpile Race, go to http://www.mountwashingtonroadrace.com/ and sign up.  Also - if you enter the lottery and do not get selected, you may request one of the 10 spots the MTC is allotted.  (You will have to be a dues paying MTC member for 2007.) The deal is that you must supply a volunteer to help with the race.  We get 10 slots and need to come up with 10 volunteers.  Mike Doyle will be coordinating again this year - he may be contacted at MDOYLE@synergentcorp.com

Just another reason why it is a good idea to join a local club and give something back to the sport. Warning!  Anyone can ask to join the Maine Track Club it does not matter where you live. If you live in Maine and want to do Mtn Washington please contact Mile Doyle today.
