The 2007 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the University of Maine in Orono from August 2 -5. This is the 3rd time it is at the University of Maine. Participants say the best two sites are the University of Oregon in Eugene and the University of Maine.
Competition starts at age 30 on up in 5 year age groups. Competitors include local runners and field participants as well as past Olympians and national and world age group record holders. Events include a track 5K on Thursday, Steeplechase on Friday, 10K and 800 Saturday and 1500 and relays on Sunday to name a few events. Relays including 4X100,4X400 and 4X800 are in 10 year age groups for either club or ad hoc{ not all on the team belonging to the same club).
At the recent indoor Masters Championships in Boston, many world and national records were set including Bob Matteson age 90 from Vermont running a 4:50:81 in the 800 for a record and Kathy Martin age 55 from New York running a 2:31:73 800 for a record as well as a 5:27:89 mile and a 10:35:36 3K.
