ST. GEORGE (July 11): The St. George Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual Marshall Point Lighthouse Loop, a 5-kilometer road race that is part of the St. George Days celebration.

The 5K, and free children's one-mile fun run, will be held on Saturday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m. The fun run will begin at 8:25 a.m.

The scenic 5K course on the St. George peninsula begins off Route 131 in Port Clyde at the Drift Inn Beach. The course proceeds to the Marshall Point Lighthouse, featured in the movie "Forrest Gump," starring Tom Hanks, through the village of Port Clyde and finishes at the Drift Inn Beach.

T-shirts will be given to the first 75 who register. Prizes will be awarded for first place in each age group. The advanced registration fee is $13. Registration on race day will be $15.

Race applications for runners or walkers are available at the St. George Town Office as well as on the town's website at stgeorgemaine.com. Proceeds will benefit the St. George Parks and Recreation Department Boosters.

A pancake breakfast, which begins at 7 a.m., is available for purchase prior to the road race.

The St. George Days parade will be at 11 a.m. followed by a daylong celebration featuring food, touch tanks, book sales, auctions, a dunk tank, raffles and music.

The night concludes with fireworks at 9 p.m. over Tenants Harbor.
