Information, photos and video of Maine Running events across the State of Maine. Online since 2004.
A web site can be a great tool for a club to reach their membership. Often a web site services more than the club membership. If you are a runner living in Maine and have not joining a running club you are not getting ALL you can get out of the sport. And on the other side of the coin you should also be giving back to the sport as well. Please see a list of the names of club clubs on the RRCA & Maine USATF web sites. Now do the right thing. If you are a member of a running club ask a friend to join your club. Often people do not take the first step and join a group because they are fear hey will not kbow anyone in the group.
You can always contact me if you like. DavidColbyYoung@aol.com

Selected photos from 2004, these photos were either deleted by mistake and/or not posted in the first place. We may have had more photos but were lost when my hard drived crashed in the fall of 2004. These photos were backed up and stored on a CD for use in the News*Run, the publication of the Maine Track Club.
Don Penta took photos of this event also. You will have to contact him for information on his collections. We were only posting selective photos of MTC members in 2004 & 2005. It was not until photos were given to us on CD that be posted all the photos.

On my way home I saw a lady pulling a wagon on US Rt. 26 just North of the toll road exit at West Falmouth crossing. I stopped to take a few photos & hoped to find out where his lady was going. If you are interested on why she was pulling a 300 pound wagon, you should read her blog. I let her look at my copy of Delorme's "The Maine Atlas & Gazetteer" It is my understanding that she was heading for Canada and Rt #9 would take her in that direction. I hope I pointed her in the correct direction.

These photos were taken by David Colby Young on 11 Nov 2004. They were archived and not published until now. As these photos were taken before the setting up of this "Maine Running Photos" Blog they have been lost for the past three year on one of the hard drives. The files were found while doing a clean-up of the hard drives. We have about 100 G of photos as of Nov 2007. These photos were taken with a Sony 1.2 px and by a person just learning how to run the camera. We hope you might enjoy the flash to the past 2004.

Gasping Gobbler 5KPortland Boys & Girls Club 5 Miler? :
Well, I have heard that "No Chip! No Time!" Well, this statement is often true but I guess not always true. I have in the past made a "pest" of myself to many of the time services in Maine & New England. I am one of the photojournalist at the finish line taking photos. While I look over the photos & conpare them to the resullts, I see many of the mistakes which are made. Often the errors are made by volunteers and/or the runners not following the rules which have been clearly made before each races. One of these errors would be that runners forget to attach their chip to their foot. The chip system might be faster but it does not record all. The following story was published in the www.MDIslander.com which I believe to the the exception and not the rule which most time services see as their job. This type of correction is going the extra mile.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — It was a photo finish of sorts.
For one competitor in the sixth running of the Mount Desert Island Marathon recently, news photos taken at the finish line have helped him get his name, and his 57th-place finish, into the record books. According to race officials, David Feltwell of Virginia apparently forgot to put a computer chip on his shoe that would have automatically recorded his time as he crossed the finish line. “I did not realize my mistake until I crossed the finish line,” Mr. Feltwell said in an e-mail to race officials. The fact that Mr. Feltwell, who was running his second MDI Marathon, was not in the results was discovered when the Islander planned to use a photo of the runner celebrating at the finish in the paper, but reporters could not find his bib number in the officialresults. The photo that appeared on the front page of last week’s Islander, as well as other photos taken just before and after, helped race officials determine when Mr. Feltwell finished. The paper supplied the images to official race timer Bill Teschek of Granite Race Services who made the final determination. “David, I’ve given you a time of 3:27:29, as the clock shows you past the finish line at 3:27:28 and we always round up,” Mr. Teschek said in an e-mail to Mr. Feltwell last week. Mr. Feltwell, who works in the Pentagon, is an uncle to Mount Desert Island triathlete and runner Nigel Storer. However, what is good news for Mr. Feltwell may come as a disappointment to the more than 600 participants who finished after him. Their places were all adjusted down by one when the official record was corrected. |
